What Is the Working Principle of a Cam Rotor Pump?
2025-09-24
A cam rotor pump, also known as an internal gear pump, is a type of centrifugal pump commonly used for conveying high-viscosity liquids. It is widely applied in industries such as chemical engineering, petroleum, and food processing. The working principle of a cam rotor pump is as follows:
1. Structural Composition
A cam rotor pump mainly consists of two parts: an outer rotor and an inner rotor. The outer circle of the outer rotor is elliptical, with cams on its inner surface; the inner hole of the inner rotor is elliptical, with grooves on its outer surface. When the outer rotor and inner rotor are mated with each other, a sealed chamber is formed.
2. Working Process
During operation, liquid enters the pump chamber through the suction port. The cams of the outer rotor trap the liquid in the chamber between the inner rotor and the outer rotor. As the outer rotor and inner rotor rotate, the liquid is compressed and conveyed to the discharge port.
3. Working Principle
In a cam rotor pump, the liquid is continuously trapped, compressed, and conveyed between the inner rotor and the outer rotor, thereby forming a continuous suction and conveying process. The design of the cams and the rotational speed can control the chamber volume of the pump and the pumping flow rate.
4. Features and Advantages
Cam rotor pumps are suitable for conveying special liquids such as high-viscosity, high-temperature, and easy-to-crystallize liquids. They have the advantages of high stability, low noise, small pulsation, and smooth operation. The pump body can be made of materials such as stainless steel, carbon steel, and alloy, making it suitable for various working conditions.
In summary, through the rotational movement of the cams, a cam rotor pump sucks liquid from the suction port, compresses it, and conveys it to the discharge port, realizing the continuous conveyance of liquids. With its simple structure and stable operation, it is suitable for the conveyance of high-viscosity liquids in various industrial fields.
